The Pyrodur® and Pyrostop® glass lines constitute the biggest advance in terms of fire- retardant glass products for buildings. Developed by Pilkington®, these glasses have a very high added value and look identical to a common colorless glass. They have proven characteristics as a fire barrier plus a high rate of heat insulation that prevents the temperature on the cold side from exceeding 180°C.
It is composed of two Float® laminated sheets together with an intumescent, colorless and clear resin, which, when the temperature rises above 140°C, reacts by increasing in volume, creating an opaque white layer that is fire resistant for up to 60 minutes. It achieves a thermal insulation capacity of 15 minutes. Pyrodur® can be cut like laminated glass or using a diamond blade.
Made of three or more sheets of Float® laminated glass together with intumescent colorless, and clear layers, which, at a temperature rise higher than 140°C react by increasing volume and forming an opaque, white fire resistant layer. It has thermal insulation properties to prevent the ignition by radiation of combustible materials adjacent to the glass. It is made on order and customized to satisfy different degrees of fire resistance and thermal insulation. When fire resistance goes from 90 to 120 minutes, Pyrostop® is supplied in the form of a double glazed unit with an air chamber and an 8mm thick steel spacer.
