Founded in 1962 by our current owners and partners, La Casa de los Cristales® is today one of the most important and prestigious glass distribution and processing companies in the country.
Solar-E® was developed in the United States to meet the growing comfort and energy saving requirements of heating and cooling in residential architecture works and in buildings where transparency, solar control and thermal insulation is simultaneously required. It is the first pyrolytic glass in the world that has solar control and low emissivity properties. Transparent, and with a neutral color, it has a very low visible light reflectance, and can be thermally processed.
Solar-E® is a new glass manufactured using colorless Float® glass, and with a pyrolytic coating on one side, which is hot applied during glass manufacturing, giving it solar control and low emissivity properties. Its use reduces the load and energy costs from heating and cooling systems.
Solar-E® is the ideal glass for housing projects. Its neutral color, practically colorless, allows a clear vision without annoying reflections. Aesthetically, it combines with all types of architectural plans such as a colorless glass. For commercial architecture works, when combined with non-reflective glasses of color, it allows to reach the classic objectives for this type of work, characterized by adequate solar control and low reflectivity.
Solar-E® is a colorless glass specially coated on one of its sides to obtain good properties of solar control and low emissivity without producing a significant change in its color and transparency. It is an ideal glass for buildings in climates with hot summers and mild winters, where reaching adequate levels of comfort requires cooling systems in the summer and heating systems during the winter. Designed to offer a neutral color, with low reflectivity and better passive solar control performance.
While Solar-E® can be used as monolithic or laminated glass, when used in double glazed hermetic units, it offers the best transmittance values. To activate all Solar-E® properties, the coated side should always be facing the interior of the building and/or the air chamber. When used as laminated glass with the coated side in contact with the PVB sheet, its low emissivity property fades.
To meet the requirements of greater mechanical or thermal resistance, Solar-E® can be thermally processed - tempered or hardened - with precautions similar to those taken when processing any low-emissivity pyrolytic glass.
Solar-E® is available in 2440x3300mm 6mm thick sheets. You may also order 2.5 - 3 - 4 and 5 mm thick upon request. Used on the second side, the Solar-E® glass provides solar control and increases the thermal insulation of a double glazed glass. There are two functions to the Solar-E® glass:
