Founded in 1962 by our current owners and partners, La Casa de los Cristales® is today one of the most important and prestigious glass distribution and processing companies in the country.
Laminated FLoat® is considered the best security and protection glass. It provides security
to people and protection of material goods for attempts of theft and vandalism, preventing
easy entry to a property due to glass breakage in doors or windows. Its application is
mandatory in glazed ceilings.
It is composed of two sheets of Float® glass closely attached together by the interposition
of one or more polyvinyl butyral (PVB) sheets, applied with heat and pressure by
autoclave. To satisfy solar control requirements, it can be composed of any type of Float®,
colorless, colored and/or reflective glass, and it is not necessary for both glasses to be of
the same type or thickness. The standard PVB thickness is 0.38 mm. When enhanced
safety or noise control is required, it can be manufactured on request with 0.76mm,
1.14mm, and 1.52mm thickness PVB.
In the event of break, Laminated Float® glass is very difficult to penetrate, and broken pieces of glass will stay on the PVB sheet, maintaining the physical integrity of the panel and its functions without critically diminishing the vision.
Laminated Float® offers better acoustic insulation properties than a monolithic Float® glass with the same total thickness, and significantly enhances the ability to control the passage of noise in double glazed units manufactured with one or two laminated glasses. The noise-insulating capacity of a window is often attributed only to glass; however, it is a prior and exclusive condition that the window is airtight to the passage of air.
The PVB film filters more than 99% of the ultraviolet radiation, which causes premature discoloration of fabrics and upholstery and accelerated aging of certain materials exposed to sunlight. While the blocking of UV radiation contributes to extend the life of curtains and carpets, it does not have adverse effects on plant growth.
Laminated Float® is manufactured in standard sheets of 2500x3600 mm, using both sheets of the same thickness of colorless, bronze, gray, or green Float® glass, or combining colorless Float® with colored Float®. When manufactured with 6mm pyrolytic reflective glass, on side #2, or with high performance color solar control Float® glass Evergreen®, Supergrey® or Arctic Blue® 6mm, it is supplied in 2440x3300 mm sheets, laminated with 4mm thick colorless Float®.
The colorless, 0.38 mm thick, PVB Laminated Float® glass is available in the following combinations:
3+3 mm (composed of both sheets of colorless laminated Float® glass with translucent white PVB)
It is composed of a colorless laminated glass and a colored one.
It is composed of two colored glasses.
6+4 mm Composed of a 6mm pyrolytic reflective glass, with a reflective coat on side #2, in contact with the PVB sheet, and a 4mm colorless Float® glass. The colors available with this combination are: silver, gray, bronze, teal, green, blue and gold.
6+4mm Composed of a laminated high-performance colored solar control Evergreen®, Arctic Blue® or Supergrey® Float® glass with a 4mm colorless Float® glass.
